Together, we designed the on-court workout for basketball players grades 7-12 who wanted to improve their basketball athleticism and basketball skills. #MobilityMonday The shin box switch is one of the most important mobility drills for the lower body. It is designed to increase your hip rotation and unglue any tight areas in the joint’s capsule, which can increase your range of motion during lower-body lifts and protect your lower spine. And, besides all that, it just feels really good. Perform 10 to 20 reps before your next lower-body workout, or just do 2 to 5 minutes of the move while you watch TV at night.

#MobilityMonday If your hip is lacking the internal rotation range to cut optimally, all the force of the movement will go through your knees. While your hips (and your feet and ankles) are designed to take on big rotational forces, your knees are NOT. When these excess rotational forces go through the knee, you can end up with some nasty injuries, like torn ACLs, PCLs, and meniscus. This hip internal/external rotation exercise will not only make you feel more mobile and agile, they should reduce your injury risk.

Closed drills VS. Open Drills. What's the difference?! 🟠 Closed Drills are pre-determined drills. They can be linear or even change of direction drills where the athlete knows where to go and what's going to happen. These types of drills are good for teaching mechanics but don't transfer over to real-life game situations well. 🟠 Open Drills are unplanned change of direction drills based on verbal, visual, or physical cues. They promote real-life reactions and adaptations in your athletes. These drills are the foundation of our Chaos Speed Clinic! Real-world sports situations place extreme demands on an athlete's ability to decelerate under control. These types of situations are impossible to replicate in closed drills that are in typical speed training sessions. Open drills are more applicable to sports. #MobilityMonday Limited ankle dorsiflexion has been associated with a whole host of lower extremity injuries including plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, calf strains, shin splints, patellofemoral pain, IT band syndrome, and even acl injuries. The half-kneeling dorsiflexion test is a simple way to assess your ankles. Find a wall and kneel close to it with your shoes off. Use a tape measure and place your big toe 5 inches from wall. From this position, push your knee forward attempting to touch the wall with your knee. Your heel must start in contact with the ground. What did you see? Pass . Knee can touch the wall at 5 or more inch distance . Heels remain firmly planted . Knees align with feet . No pain noted Fail . Knee unable to touch wall at 5 inch distance . Heel pulls off the ground . Knees collapse inwards in order to touch wall . Pain noted
